In recent years, backpacks have become more and more visible in menswear. You can find them in a variety of shapes and materials, both rugged practical versions and sleek fashion oriented. I recently acquired an Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack and before I jump into my review I would like to mention some words about Arsante of Sweden, a company that is based in my home town in south of Sweden.
THE STORY ABOUT ARSANTE OF SWEDEN
The Arsante brand was created from the philosophy of providing the finest quality in luxury briefcases, handbags, luggage and accessories making a statement against today’s consumer oriented lifestyle. Their mission is to bring back the good old on-the-go luxury where comfortable style has materialized in design dominated by clean shapes, minimalism and excellent quality.
All bags are handmade from genuine leather with cotton fabric lining and are produced in a family owned factory in the Nordics. The products are designed to fit all MacBooks, from the smallest MacBook to 15’’ MacBook Pro.
Their current collections entails 2 briefcases in 2 different sizes, 2 tote bags also in 2 different sizes, a large weekend bag, a backpack and 2 smaller leather accessories – 1 car seat side pocket and one laptop sleeve. During my visit at their headquarters in Malmö, I got to see some of their upcoming products that I think will complement the current selection very well, including a smaller Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack for the ladies. REVIEW ARSANTE OF SWEDEN LEATHER BACKPACK
Disclaimer – The backpack was received for review purpose
The backpack subject for this review is the BACKPACK™ LUXURY HANDMADE LEATHER BACKPACK that has been used on a daily basis for a couple of weeks.
SPECIFICATIONS: The Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack is roomy and made to fit a 13” MacBook Pro and other daily essentials. It’s handmade in the Nordics by a small leather goods factory.
- Price – 499€
- Leather – Full grain Bovine leather from Italy
- Lining – High durability cotton
- Zipper – Italian polished raccagni zippers
- Fittings – Original zipper puller from the metal of vintage aircraft
Width: 39cm or 15.4″
Height: 29cm or 11.4″
Depth: 13cm or 5.1″
EXTERIOR & MATERIAL: The backpack is manufactured in full grain Bovine leather from Italy. It has adjustable and padded straps and also includes a small top handle. The leather has a really nice feel to it and is soft, yet feels durable. The padded shoulder straps relieve the pressure when adding some extra weight in the backpack. I also like that you can adjust the padding depending on how high or low you want to wear your backpack.
The main compartment of the backpack has two zipper closures. There is also one zippered pocket on the exterior, The zippers are from Italy and are produced by Raccagni. The zipper pullers are exclusively handcrafted from the metal of vintage planes and are shaped like a propeller. Both the zippers and pullers have a nice feel to them and I really like the fact that they use vintage material which feels very unique.
Worth mentioning is that the bottom of the backpack has been shaped in a way that makes the backpack stand upright very good, even when it’s packed which I like very much.
INTERIOR & SIZE: As I mentioned before the main compartment of Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack has two zipper closures. The interior pockets have trimmings in leather. The interior is lined with industry grade cotton and feels very durable. The main compartment consists of 2 seperate compartments; the larger one that fits your daily essentails (camera, sweater, bottle etc.) and one smaller to safely store your laptop, iPad or similar. The Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack feels very roomy on the inside, still looking very sleek on the outside. 1 or 2 penholders would have been “a nice to have” rather than “a need to have” but is nothing that lowers the overall impression.
The zipped side pocket is large enough to store items that you like to access easily and can fit your wallet, keys, and even a smaller notebook without a problem. A positive aspect is that it still keeps it’s shape and doesn’t look bulky when you fill it up.
SUMMARY: All in all I find the Arsante of Sweden Leather Backpack to be a very well made backpack. After using it for a couple of weeks I would say that it offers a good value-for-money backpack if you are willing to pay 499€. Some of the things that I really like and would like to highlight a bit extra are:
- The design and details
- Size and well planned compartments
- The zipper pullers exclusively handcrafted from the metal of vintage planes
